In recent years there has been a growing interest in integrating light music into musical education. This prompted me to compose a number of pieces based on various popular styles. Written for trio, the pieces are eminently suitable for the group classes often given in music schools.
Saxophone Time for 3 alto or tenor saxes, or for 1 alto and 2 tenors, or for 2 altos and 1 tenors.
The parts can of course be doubled, tripled, etc.
Chord symbols in some of the pieces make it fairly simple to add chord instruments (keyboard, guitar) or even a complete combo (bass and percussion).
The pieces give the student a good idea of what can be played besides the usual (classical) material.
They have a distinctive character and are arranged in ascending order of difficulty (from the 2nd half of the 1st year of tuition onward).
The compass of the pieces in Saxophone Time is from d1 to d3. The rhythmic structure is based on recurring patterns.
